Water & Sanitation

Access to safe, clean water and sanitation solutions is a fundamental pillar of human health. One of the most disastrous impacts of climate change will be the destruction of precious water resources that are the life-source of communities and families.  In addition, as temperatures rise and precipitation varies, vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Lyme disease, and many more, will flourish; further, food- and water-borne diseases, already catastrophically detrimental to vulnerable communities around the world, pose an even greater global threat. Local communities have unique insights about how to manage and preserve precious water resources and how to mobilize sanitation and hygiene solutions that support healthy  environments.

We believe that community-managed WASH models promote and often re-imagine water and sanitation strategies as a shared priority, grounded in human rights and justice.

Local initiatives hold exciting potential for sustainable approaches that are of, by, and for the community.
